Nightforce ATACR 1-8×24 F1 Riflescope

By Dave Bahde

Nightforce’s ATACR (Advanced Tactical Riflescope) scopes are among the best available on the market today. These scopes are built to withstand the rigors of deployment using the best possible components, designed to withstand the most adverse conditions in existence. Built from the ground up to be ultimately reliable, rugged, and repeatable, they take the concept of “overbuilt” to a new level. Housings are built like a tank, turrets are strong with large numbers and feature as much as 35 mils (120 MOA) of elevation adjustment. Lenses are ED (Extra Low Dispersion), fully multicoated and brilliantly bright with excellent light transmission at the extremes of dusk and dawn. One of the best examples and the most versatile is the new 1-8x24mm ATACR F1.

Measuring ten inches long, it fits on everything from a carbine to battle rifle, and with 30 mils of adjustment it can be used with just about any caliber. Extended eye relief makes for a quick sight picture no matter your position. Low-profile turrets can be used exposed or covered no matter the weather conditions. Adjustments are in .10 mil increments for both elevation and windage and match the FC-DM mil reticle, which features a multi-position adjustment to illuminate either the center circle or the entire reticle. Starting with a segmented circle, mil lines and dots provide automatic holds for elevation and wind. Located in the first focal plane, the reticle is accurate for holds and ranging at any power. A true 1x magnification allows it to be used as a red-dot sight for close quarters engagements, and adjusting magnification is fast and easy using the Power Throw Lever. Using the 1-8x24mm ATACR F1 on a dozen different rifles it has proven to be the most versatile short-to-medium range optic I’ve ever used. Glass is brilliantly clear and usable from dawn to dusk. At ten inches, it fits on everything from my IWI X95 Tavor bullpup to the SCAR 20S .308 DMR rifle. Built to last, it’s been dragged through snow, over rocks, in the rain, sleet and mud and never failed. If you want a scope that meets most needs from self-defense to either the field of battle or competition, and one you can bet your life on, this is it. It has proven to be my first choice for its intended mission and the perfect choice for a 2018 Editors’ Choice Award.
