Walther PPQ M2 9mm

A unique slide profile tapers sharply toward the top. Full length serrations along the sight plane reduce glare.

The PPQ M2’s grip frame sports three front-strap finger grooves, moderately aggressive texturing and three interchangeable back straps that will accommodate hands of pretty nearly any size. The serrated, square-front trigger guard is elongated for use by gloved shooters, and a 3-slot equipment rail is molded into the dust cover. The matte-black, Tenifer-finished, stainless-steel slide offers both front and rear grasping grooves, and is fitted with 3-dot contrast sights with windage-adjustable rear. A beefy, 2-inch long, external extractor is mounted in a recess on the right-hand side of the slide behind the ejection port.
Controls consist of 2-inch long, ambidextrous slide-release levers with serrated finger shelves that are easily manipulated by the strong-hand thumb without breaking the firing grip. Ditto for the prominent, round mag-release button mounted on the left side of the frame, which is readily reversible for lefties. A Glock-like trigger with central safety blade, and a takedown latch above the trigger, complete the controls. Two internal drop safeties are also provided, but there is no magazine-drop safety. The PPQ M2 comes with two 15-round magazines, mag loader, gun lock, lockable hard case and Walther’s original-owner lifetime warranty.

Every new striker-fired, polymer-frame pistol that has ever hit the market has been compared to the Glock platform. In this case, the PPQ M2’s closest counterpart is the G19 Gen4. Both guns share the same chambering (9mm), the same barrel lengths (4”) and the same standard and extended magazine capacities (15/17). While the PPQ M2 is about an eight of an inch shorter than the G19, it’s also about an eighth of an inch taller. Widths are so close that nobody would notice the difference—1.25” for the PPQ M2 vs. 1.18” for the G19—but the PPQ M2 is a full two ounces lighter than the G19 Gen4. Both pistols come with molded equipment rails, interchangeable backstraps and reversible mag release buttons. It’s almost scary how similar the PPQ M2 and the Glock 19 Gen4 are in every significant respect.
