Robarized Kahr PM9

Giving the ROBAR-treatment to one of our all-time-favorite carry pistol's

The barrel, controls, all other small metal parts and both flush-fit and extended magazines were treated to a coating that’s been time-tested and has proved it’s value across multiple On Target project guns—the ultra-durable NP3. ROBAR’s NP3 is an aerospace-accredited, satin gray, non-reflective surface coating for carbon steel, stainless steel and aluminum alloys that co-deposits sub-micron particles of Teflon with electroless nickel. It’s highly resistant to corrosion and is super slick, making it ideal for plating internal components to reduce friction, increase reliability and extend service life. It creates a very hard, slippery surface that requires no lubrication, so fouling—and especially ice—has nothing to cling to. Like Poly-T2, ROBAR guarantees NP3 against corrosion, peeling or flaking for the lifetime of the firearm.

We love the next-to-nothing weight, streamlined dimensions and easy on/off of the Lasermax center- fire laser. Installation takes less than a minute.

When the gun landed back here, we also added a LaserMax CenterFire trigger-guard mount laser module (a 30-second job…$129; www.lasermax.com). The CenterFire is a sleek little unit that barely adds to the size of the trigger guard, with ambidextrous on/off buttons easily operated by the tip of the trigger finger. I also picked up a CrossBreed MiniTuck inside-the-waistband holster for the PM9 molded to accommodate the CenterFire laser ($67.75; www.crossbreedholsters.com). The fit, comfort and degree of concealment of the MiniTuck are as good as it gets.

In addition to being extremely comfortable, Crossbreed can mold their holsters to most any gun and light/laser combination.

The front slide serrations turned out great, and are a perfect match to factory rear serrations. I chose the medium rough texturing on the grip frame, which ROBAR also applied to the base of my extended 7-round magazine. The two biggest functional improvements were the trigger—it’s now smooth as silk with a slightly reduced pull weight—and the XS 24/7 Big Dot night sights (www.xssights.com) that stand out like a sore thumb in all lighting conditions. Overall, I’m delighted with ROBAR’s work. They took a great gun and made it truly exceptional. For more information, contact The ROBAR Companies, Dept. OT; Tel.: (623) 581-2648; Web: www.robarguns.com
